Hanji Exhibition: GRAND OPENING September 20th
Grand Opening: SEPTEMBER 20th
4:00 pm at the Alabama Center for Commerce
As part of the Korean traditional celebration of two major cultural holidays Chuseok and Founder’s Day, A-KEEP presents the 3-D Hanji Art Exhibition showcasing Hanji—a traditional Korean paper—with Korean artistry and innovation. This year’s theme is “Shine a Light”. With the darkness of the last year, the artists wanted to express the light and hope we can have. Students and the community members created their own lanterns and the artists created new works to represent this LIGHT!
This event is funded by a grant awarded from the Alabama State Council on the Arts [ASCA]. Artwork created by local professional Korean artists, students who participated in workshops at a private studio Art Station and The Armory Learning Arts Center in Montgomery and our annual Korean language summer camp called “Catch the K-Wave” will be on display and part of the exhibition will be for sale.
The featured local Korean artists—Sujoung Paek, HyeKyong Yun, and EunJoung Lee—created sculpture-based Hanji art that moves viewers to consider historical customs in a modern setting, as well as the whimsy and joy that can be infused into the arts. This exhibition is available for viewing from September 20th through October 8th, Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. For the health and safety of all guests, masks and social distancing are recommended in the exhibition space
We look forward to seeing you there!
