Challenge America is a grant program initiated by the National Endowment of the Arts that provides a vital platform for local organizations to foster community involvement and partnerships in the performing arts. Thanks to this grant, A-KEEP is able to provide an annual community theatrical performance of Alabamian and multicultural folktales. These performances bring together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate the richness of diverse cultures through storytelling and the arts. Experience the heartwarming story of a young Korean girl from Alabama who is turning fifteen. She seeks to learn about her family's birthday traditions, asking her mother and grandmother to share their stories. The girl also shares how her school friends celebrate in their unique ways. She dreams of celebrating her birthday in various cultural styles with all her friends.

The Robin Hood of Korea
A-KEEP is gearing up for an exciting community theatrical performance of "The Robin Hood of Korea," directed by Angela Dickson. This unique production interweaves Korean and Alabamian arts and folklore to create a fresh retelling of the Korean folktale "Hong Gil Dong." which follows the story of a young man who becomes a Robin Hood-like figure, fighting against corruption and social injustice.
A-KEEP's community theatrical performance of "The Robin Hood of Korea" is a wonderful example of how the arts can bring people together and create meaningful connections between distinct cultures. The upcoming performance is a fantastic opportunity for audiences to engage with a lesser-known piece of Korean literature and witness the talent and creativity of local performers.

A Tale of Two Brothers - August 21, 2020
Immerse yourself in a world of magic, dance, and drama from your living room with Alabama-Korea Education & Economic Partnership's virtual production of “A Tale of Two Brothers.” This performance is based on a Korean folktale, from the late Joseon Dynasty, this enchanting musical tells the story of two brothers who grew up together but were divided by greed and conflict. In order to save their families and restore order to their village they must confront their disagreements and come together. Watch this classic tale be re-imagined with a fusion of traditional Korean artistry and Southern American flare with featuring costumes, art, and dialogue from both cultures. This unique mixture explores unity between Korea and Alabama through art and performance. A Tale of Two Brothers highlights themes of familial love, forgiveness, and cross-cultural communication distributed through both drama and comedy that is appropriate for all ages.
