WOW MAY…It is a BUSY YET exciting month!
A-KEEP was pleased to celebrate Korean culture by supporting Montgomery’s Department of Cultural Affairs’ first Multicultural Festival Series on Saturday, May 8th. At our booth, all staff members wore both women and men traditional Korean attire called Hanbok and shared information about upcoming programs: STARTALK: Catch the K-Wave, the Challenge America play called “The Devoted Daughter of the Shims’ and the Montgomery Biscuits Korean Heritage Night at the stadium and our Korean Hotline Services. After arriving by airplane, the night before, we had the pleasure of highlighting the play’s choreographer, Ms. Sojeong Kim’s beautiful traditional dance performance for the audience to also enjoy a presentation through the arts!
AKEEP’S other project in May is the arrival of Korean Interns who are part of the 5S STEM Teacher Program on May 31st! A-KEEP partnered with LEAD Academy, Montgomery’s first public charter school, and Troy University to offer an opportunity for seven (7) teachers to participate in a summer internship program for one month. LEAD Academy is one of the schools in Montgomery that offers Korean as a second language [KSL] classes as part of their academic program; however, these teachers will be tutors and teacher assistants for students in an enrichment program for English, math, and science.
Troy University’s professor, Dr. Joseph Johnson is offering educator’s preparation and training sessions for teachers to successfully pass the edTPA. edTPA is a performance-based, subject-specific assessment and support system used by teacher preparation programs throughout the United States to emphasize, measure and support the skills and knowledge that all teachers need from Day 1 in the classroom. We will keep you posted!
