Yea, We Won!! Grant Announcement

A-KEEP is proud to announce that we have been awarded two grants totaling $16,600.00 from the Alabama State Council on the Arts (ASCA). This is our fourth year successfully writing innovative ideas for cultural events that bridge Alabama and Korean art forms.

The ASCA, which strives to enhance the quality of life within the state through providing support for Alabamian art projects, has awarded A-KEEP to present in June 2022, to produce our annual community-based theatrical production called The Fairy and the Lumberjack and offer educational workshops for secondary students and community members. They will learn theater techniques, acquire some Korean language and Korean traditional dances.

Wow, what is a community theater? It is defined as the activity of acting in or producing a play in a theater for enjoyment and not as a job so anyone interested can participate!

The Fairy and the Lumberjack is one of the most popular of all Korean folktales. Like Romeo and Juliet, The Fairy and the Lumberjack is a one-of-a-kind folktale that defines a tragic love story with its own twists and turns. Mrs. Dickson, who is currently the drama teacher for Alabama Christian Academy will be the screenwriter and director again. See our first production and immerse yourself in a world of magic, dance, and drama from your living room with Alabama-Korea Education and Economic Partnership's virtual production - AKEEP Presents "A Tale of Two Brothers 흥부와 놀부" | Live Theater Performance - YouTube

We will bring you updates in our newsletter. If you would like more information on
