Let’s show off that good ole “Alabama Southern hospitality!”

A-KEEP is partnering with the Alabama State Department of Education [ALSDE] to bridge the deficit of STEM teachers for schools in the Montgomery area. We have an excellent opportunity for you to be a part of the solution! We are looking for families willing to host 1 or more interns from mid-January to mid-February, 20 student-teachers from Korea will arrive in Montgomery to attend A-KEEP's International Educator Intern Program. An in-depth orientation program that highlights cultural transitions and an understanding of the American school system. These Korean educators want to assimilate into the Alabama way of life because they are working on pursuing an Alabamian teaching certificate that compliments their Korean credentials. 

A host family is the initial place that allows teachers to become acclimated to Alabama as well as some of the American norms. They are adults, so if you were to look at it, they would be a visiting a “foreign cousin” with a built-in schedule! All transportation to and from internship activities are provided by the intern. 

HOST FAMILY Expectations - A-KEEP is asking you to help them become acquainted with Montgomery and the local area. You will be asked to please volunteer and provide the following: 

  • A bed in a room that will accommodate some storage for clothing and personal items.

  • Provide an English-speaking environment

  • A safe and healthy environment

  • When relevant exchange/introduce Alabama’s celebrated holidays, and cultural events [i.e. public outings, restricted areas, the availability, and directions to stores, parks, and hobbies they may have or you may want to introduce]

It will be a wonderful experience not only for them, but for your family members as well! We are looking for gracious warm, sweet, and welcoming homes in Montgomery, Pike Road, and some local communities.
