Catch the K-Wave at Brewbaker
This month, A-KEEP began Catch the K-Wave club at Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School. More than 40 students were in attendance as I, Brittany, introduced A-KEEP and the purpose of the club. Catch the K-Wave club is a program for high school students who are interested in Korean language and culture. Each week, students will actively engage in learning about Korean language, culture, and history through popular K-pop music, K-dramas, or K-games. Most importantly, the students will learn about a critical-need foreign language related to U.S. national security, professional careers with a Less-Commonly Taught Language, international study of abroad opportunities, and much more. In partnership with Brewbaker, this will be another great beginning for an accredited course with Montgomery Public schools.
As someone with the same interests in Korean music, food, and culture, I was super excited to be able to facilitate this club. I was so elated to see the interest and the number of students who attended. We spent our time learning how to say hello. I spoke with the students about their interest in Korean culture and language. So many have already been teaching themselves, eating the food, learning about the culture. Students are excited to learn and ready to experience Korean food, culture, and language. I am happy that this club can be a facilitator for their interests.
A-KEEP currently provides Korean language and culture programs at various schools from Elementary to High School and a hybrid-program for the community. This year we began an accredited program at Pike Road High School. To learn more about our Korean programs please visit: A-KEEP KSL K-12 Programs and Community Programs.
