Ms. Jemma Lee is “A-KEEP’s K-12 KOREAN CHAMPION”
Jemma Lee came to A-KEEP in the spring of 2019. With a passion for teaching and more than 10 years of teaching experience, she was ready for a new adventure and challenge. Her new adventure began when a friend recruited her to teach in AKEEP’s 3-week summer language camp called STARTALK: Catch the K-Wave. Her professional decision required temporarily relocating from Korea to Alabama, a trip that took more than 24-hours, but she stayed to become the Korean Education Specialist for A-KEEP.
Not only does Ms. Lee spend her days developing curriculum and training new teachers; she also spends a long time in the classroom. She is a Korean teacher for LEAD Academy and Pike Road Junior High schools. Every morning, she teaches students at Pike Road, and then she heads to LEAD Academy to teach her students in the afternoon. Ms. Lee is developing curriculum and lesson plans that will boost a student’s enthusiasm to learn a new language. Her love for teaching and helping the next generation is proven in her efforts to lead a student-centered class. Students enjoy her teaching style and they look forward to seeing Jemma쌤 (teacher in Korean) every morning. A-KEEP is appreciative of all the effort, skills, and time Jemma puts in and out of the classroom.
A-KEEP currently provides Korean language and culture programs at various schools from Elementary to Junior High School and a hybrid-program for the community. This upcoming academic year, A-KEEP is expanding curricula to provide an accredited high school Korea program.
