Critical Language Education at PRS: A non-Western European language that is critical to U.S. National Security.
Korean and Chinese are both designated as critical languages by the U.S. Department of Defense and National Security Education Programs. Teaching and learning the Korean language has additional benefits to the local economy thanks to Korean industries in central Alabama and that is why A-KEEP has been teaching Korean at local public schools including all Pike Road Schools.
After Troy University’s Confucius Institute’s departure from districts like Pike Road Schools and all other K-12 schools, A-KEEP took the challenge of adding Chinese education into our language portfolio. Therefore, we helped Mr. Dawson Zhang, a local Chinese-American, to teach a Chinese course at Pike Road High School. We now are helping Ms. YiYang “Adela” Shen to teach an online course for the interested students.
Ms. Shen is a senior in the College of Education at the University of Hong Kong, majoring in English Education with a minor in International Education and Liberal Studies. If you are interested in learning more about Chinese and/or K-12 Korean programs at A-KEEP, please let us know.
