Drumroll, please!
Welcome to the new school year! That is what AKEEP’s Korean Education teachers have experienced this past month. In fact, our teachers have welcomed more than 800 students to their Korean classes and afterschool programs in 6 schools across Montgomery County. It has been exciting for some teachers to reconnect with last year’s students and for all teachers to see their students’ desire to learn.
As our newest teacher, Mrs. Grace Kim, happily reported, “I saw the eagerness to learn Korean from them.” So far this year, students have learned to say “hello”, and have been introduced to vowel sounds, letters, and numbers in Korean. Some 4th – 6th graders even had the opportunity to learn how to play a Korean drum and how to play “Dakjii” (a popular children’s game in Korea).
AKEEP is working hard to develop curriculum and empower teachers to create environments where students can learn a new, critical language while having fun. But like every other education leader, AKEEP sees our Korean Education teachers as the true heroes who are facilitating the wonderful opportunity for so many students to expand their horizons.
