Sew Beautiful Art
Last Saturday’s Jogakbo Workshop was a great success! This activity is supported by Alabama State Council on the Arts and 35 community members joined AKEEP and Korean artists, Dr. Hyewon Yu and Heather Yun last Saturday, September 17th to create a Dagibo, a teacup wrap (see picture) and learned about the history of Korean patchwork. I was so happy to attend and even tried my hand at making the Dagibo. It sure made me wish I had learned to sew when I was younger. What a great experience to have this art to create and take home with me! Another attendee, Ms. Grace Kim wrote about her experience in her blog. 줏대 있는 삶: 한국 조각보 전시회 (jutdae.blogspot.com)
Both artists also visited Pike Road High school students and taught a workshop on how to create hanging mobiles with Jogakbo. Students had a great time, and for many, it was their first time sewing! Ms. Jemma Lee loved being able to share this traditional art with her students and used it to decorate her room more.
