A-KEEP’s International Educators Professional Development Program is ending. On Friday, a graduation ceremony will be in the auditorium of the Gordon Persons building (50 N Ripley St, Montgomery, AL 36130)  at 10:30 a.m. where 23 South Korean students from three (3) National Universities traveled to Montgomery to spend  one month observing and reflecting on the cultural diversity of the Alabama education system, which is quite different from Korea. This pilot program designed by A-KEEP at the direction of Meesoon Han is for interns to experience first hand and help them convert their Korean teaching certificates to one for Alabama. 12 Ambassadors [aka host family] were recruited to provide housing accommodations to provide general information about the city, and exchange Alabama’s southern culture with Korean culture.

The Program had interns at Pike Road Junior High and the High Schools in PRS (Pike Road Schools); Floyd Middle and Brewbaker Tech in MPS (Montgomery Public Schools). They observed various teaching techniques, learning styles and accommodations that were demonstrated by mentor teachers at each school. We believe they really enjoyed themselves with practical applications in assigned classrooms as well as engaging in learning our culture through field trips, outings and attending downtown civil rights activities.
