A-KEEP Receives the Challenge America Award Grant
A-KEEP is starting the new year off to a great start! We are pleased to announce that we have been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to receive a Challenge America award of $10,000! The NEA is an independent federal agency that is the largest funder nationwide for arts and art education. NEA’s goal is to provide grants to non-profits, colleges, public arts agencies, individual writers and translators, etc. The Challenge America award primarily supports small organizations for projects in the arts to extend the reach in their communities. “Thanks to NEA and ASCA, A-KEEP provides a thematic Challenge America for Central Alabamians...” states A-KEEP’s Director Meesoon Han. The Challenge America grant will support A-KEEP’s performing arts project of “The Robin Hood of Korea.” The folktale looks at the legend Hong Kil Dong and him finding his destiny. The story of Hong Kil Dong is the first Korean translation to be published as a Penguin classic novel.
