Special Thanks to Mrs. OkYoun Lee
Pike Road Intermediate School – Pike Road, Alabama
Every early morning, OkYoun Lee, a wife, and mother of three gets her kids ready for the day, packs their lunches, and then heads off to Pike Road Intermediate School (PRIS). Since September, Mrs. Lee has been teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade Korean language and culture classes at PRIS. She teaches six classes with more than 20 students and does it all with a smile on her face: all day, every Monday through Friday! Mrs. Lee is a very committed and hard-working teacher who appreciates her students’ interests in her language and culture. She truly enjoys teaching them what they want to learn.
Becoming a better educator was her passion and life career until she moved to Montgomery with her husband who works at a Korean manufacturer. She was and still is a Nationally Certified teacher in Korea that taught elementary students for almost a decade. She didn’t forget what she enjoyed the most – educating the next generation. Now, she practices what she believes she was meant to do through A-KEEP and its robust partnership with Pike Road Schools (PRS) district! A-KEEP also wants to allow other teachers like Mrs. Lee an opportunity to teach their language and culture to the students and learners of Alabama.
A-KEEP currently provides Korean programs at various schools from Elementary to Junior High School and a program for the community. This upcoming academic year, AKEEP is expanding curricula to provide an accredited high school Korean program.
